Riuttamäki Farm

Less traffic and consistently high-quality feed

The Riuttamäki farm in Huittinen was the first in Finland to introduce the Antti drying silo. Juho Riuttamäki manages an operation consisting of four farms, where approximately 5 million kilograms of grain are consumed annually for animal feed.

While the farm cultivates its own winter wheat and barley, most of the feed requirement is met with complete feed and purchased grain. Drying such a massive volume of grain demands significant capacity.

“We had a long-standing need to improve grain handling and feed hygiene at the pig farm,” Juho Riuttamäki explains.

He noticed the new product on Antti’s social media channels, and his interest was piqued immediately. Out of the two available sizes, the larger model (D12.1) was chosen and installed adjacent to the finishing pig facility. Construction began at Midsummer in 2025, and the drying silo was completed just in time for the harvest season. The main objectives of the investment were to increase storage capacity and reduce fuel oil consumption.

“I believe these goals have been achieved,” Riuttamäki summarizes, based on the experiences of the first year.

The drying silo has operated flawlessly

Riuttamäki is highly satisfied with the investment. The drying silo has streamlined the farm’s daily operations because the grain is now stored in a single location, eliminating the need for internal transfers.

“Previously, we had to haul grain throughout the year, but that is no longer necessary now that the grain is already at its final destination.”

The drying silo offers versatile possibilities and simplifies pig feeding.

“In the autumn, we can accept grain batches that contain mixed or wet grain, and the result is always consistent quality for the pigs’ feed. From the very beginning, the system was designed so that you can practically forget about it for a year. It’s enough that I check on it every now and then. The sensors dispense grain whenever the feeder requests it, meaning I don’t have to do anything manually,” Riuttamäki says.

The automation system controls the drying silo’s fan based on air humidity. When the relative humidity rises too high, the fan shuts off automatically to avoid running unnecessarily.

“It was a surprise how little the dryer actually runs in the end. Personally, I would have run it much more,” Riuttamäki admits.

Antti’s extensive experience inspired confidence

The investment has fully met Riuttamäki’s expectations. He was not hesitant to purchase the very first drying silo in Finland.

“Antti is a major player in the industry, so I trusted that the product brought to market would be top-notch. The manufacturer of the stirring system is a substantial operator as well.”

Cooperation with Antti has been excellent.

“In the beginning, there was a learning curve for both sides regarding the operation. Now everything runs smoothly, and we haven’t had any issues with the silo.”

According to Riuttamäki, the drying silo is ideally suited for both arable and livestock farms.

“If a crop farm has enough of a single grain variety, it can be dried very efficiently using supplemental heat. The drying silo is suitable for virtually all livestock farms. The only limiting factor is the pre-cleaner, as the grain only passes through it once.”

Daily life runs smoothly at the Riuttamäki farm, and there are currently no further grain handling investments on the horizon.

“But then again, that’s exactly what I thought before Midsummer last year as well,” Riuttamäki chuckles.

A premiere in Germany: As the first customer in Germany, Andermann farm in Haßbergen, located in the Nienburg/Weser district, chose Antti’s X-Series. The farm’s own compact grain drying plant offers numerous advantages. In addition to economic benefits, greater independence from grain traders has proven to be a significant gain for the Andermann family.
