Nissin Agricultural Cooperative: Gas ovens provide reliable drying performance and save energy and time
The Nissi agricultural cooperative in Urjala renovated its drying facility in autumn 2016. Based on drying capacity and cost-effectiveness, the Antti 63MF3 vacuum dryer from Antti-Teollisuus was chosen as the solution. Now, with four drying seasons behind us, the new solution has brought savings in both energy consumption and time.
FROM OIL TO GAS WITHOUT HASSLE
When it was time to renovate the drying facility in 2016, farmer Lauri Nissi decided to replace the oil furnace that had been in use for decades with a gas furnace. “Gas was the most affordable option for us in terms of investment. The new machinery is automated and more reliable, which has made it easier to use,” says Nissi.
The drying capacity also influenced the purchase decision. “In a gas oven, it is easy to maintain a constant and very high drying temperature regardless of the weather conditions,” Nissi continues. Compared to the equipment previously used on the farm, the energy and time savings have been significant.
NISSIN TIPS FOR THOSE CONSIDERING A GAS OVEN
“Using gas is easy and hassle-free, but it’s worth setting aside plenty of time to apply for the necessary permits. There are several gas suppliers, so it’s also a good idea to start looking for the right option for you in good time,” Nissi advises. Since the LPG vaporiser is electrically powered and consumes around 20 kilowatts, it is also worth checking that your electricity connection is sufficient.
“This is such a large and long-term investment that everyone should consider which option is best for their own farm. Gas has worked very well for us,” concludes Nissi.
